PTA-President's Welcome Message
Join Us at One of our
Monthly Meetings
Greetings on behalf of our entire
PTA group. My name is Damon V. Briggs, Sr., and
I'm excited to
introduce myself as the returning co-chair of our
PTA. Like you, I am also a parent. I have two children;
one starting first grade and the other moving on
to fourth grade.
The PTA is an active, positive
part of the ACA school community. All parents,
guardians and teachers are members of ACA's PTA.
There are no dues and no requirements to volunteer
or attend the monthly meetings. The only requirement
is that you have allowed ACA to be responsible
for the daily education of your child. The PTA
will accept your participation in any way or in
any amount of time that you are able to provide.
If
you would like to be involved, we need your support
and involvement and would like to extend our invitation
to participate. With the continued support of parents
like you, and an ever-dedicated school administration
lead by our Principal, Mr. Watts, I know that we
will achieve even greater successes on behalf of
our children this coming year. Helping with the
PTA not only benefits the children, but it's a
great way to meet the teachers, administrators,
and of course the other parents and families that
make up our community. Generally, the PTA board
hosts to an open meeting once a month. These meetings
are open to all PTA members AND anyone else who
would like to attend. Notices with the date and
time of the next meeting will go home with the
students every month, as well as be posted on the
ACA website.
The goal of all PTA activities is to
involve parents and family in children's education.
A key objective of the PTA is "to bring into
closer relation the home and school that parents
and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the
education of children and youth." To that
end, you will see many exciting programs throughout
the school year. Family Fun Nights and Family Movie
Nights are just two of the ways we intend to connect
our families. As an organization, we strive to
keep the lines of communication open between the
administration/teachers and the home. We will assign
a room parent or two to each home room, so that
the parents can be in communication with another
parent who is in their child's classroom. In this
way, we can disseminate information and obtain
assistance in a timely manor.
The PTA supports ACA
financially. There will be one take home PTA sponsored
fundraiser during the fiscal school year. The PTA
oversees the collection of Boxtops for Education,
assists with Race for Education and sponsors fundraiser
nights at local eateries. To contribute to the
students' daily activities, the PTA assists with
Picture day, Holiday House, the Book Fair and Teacher
Appreciation week.
It is the hope of the PTA that all students and
parents will enjoy a school year filled with intellectual,
social, emotional and spiritual growth. As they
say at the National PTA Conference each year, "When
PTA gets involved, children benefit." When
you get involved, the child who benefits most is
your own. Speaking firsthand, I know the Briggs
children have benefited from the participation
of my wife LaTosha and me, and we have all enjoyed
the wonderful friendships we've made and contacts
we've established over the past five years at ACA.
There
are many ways in which you can help out at the
school and make a difference in your child's education.
Study after study show that parent involvement
in a child's education greatly enhances their performance
in school. We encourage each of you to find your
niche at ACA and get involved. We promise your
children will benefit!
In His Service for our children,
Damon
V. Briggs, Sr.
